Knoxville, TN. (WATE) – Ohio State chased star freshman Ashley Rogers from the game in the first inning. Tennessee didn’t flinch. Instead, the Lady Vols scored 12 runs on 11 hits, blasting past Ohio State 12-4 and into Sunday’s region final.
Cailin Hannon provided the big momentum boost, a three-run shot to right field in the third inning that put Tennessee ahead 4-2 with a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Rogers, fresh off a 13 strikeout performance in Friday’s 8-0 shutout win over Longwood, gave up three hits and 2 runs in the first inning, before Tennessee sent it Matty Moss. The senior pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings, before Caylan Arnold entered to finish the game. The Maryville native earned the win in relief, pitching 4.2 innings with 5 strikeouts and 2 runs allowed.
The Lady Vols will face either Ohio St. or North Carolina on Sunday, needing one win to advance to a third straight Super Regional. First pitch is at noon.
If Tennessee were to lose the first game of the day, they two would play another game at 2:30.
