Mercedes Russell’s mom launches GoFundMe to join daughter for WNBA Draft

Knoxville, TENN. (WATE) – Mercedes Russell will accomplish a lifelong dream next month, where she’ll likely be chosen in the first round of the WNBA Draft in New York. Now, her mother is hoping to join her.

Tammy Hill launched a GoFundMe, seeking $2000 to help pay for her airfare and hotel costs to accompany Russell for the April 12th event.

Hill’s page reads, in part: “I’m asking for all my friends and families to consider helping me to be able to raise the money for the airfare,hotels , etc to join her in New York I just recently took a trip to Tennessee last month for Mercedes senior night and sec tournament so financing another trip so soon for me is impossible please consider sharing in this experience with us if possible I appreciate all the support and love everyone of you have shared with us over the years with so many memories …. please join us on this journey and make this dream a possibility for me.”

Russell, who was raised in her hometown of Springfield, Oregon, is projected as a first round pick in the draft. She finished her Lady Vol with the second most double-doubles in program history, and was named to the All-SEC first team after averaging 15.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.
