It wasn’t pretty but No. 5 Tennessee held off Vanderbilt 58-46 on Tuesday at Thompson-Boling Arena to complete a season sweep over its in-state rival.
Grant Williams, who scored a career-high 43 points at Vanderbilt on Jan. 23, scored six of the Tennessee’s first 10 points before finsihing with a game-high 14 and 11 rebounds.
After Tennessee went into halftime leading 36-27, the Vols scored just six points in the first 11 minutes of the second half. Lamonte Turner, who at one point sank three of his four 3-point attempts, would miss his next six attempts scoring 12 total points in the game. Admiral Schofield added 12 points and five rebounds.
The 58 points are the Vols fewest in a game this season. Ironically enough, the last time Tennessee scored 58 or fewer points in a game and won was a 58-46 win at Vanderbilt on February 13, 2013.
Tennessee turns to a road trip to No. 13 LSU on Saturday at Noon.
