No. 23 Tennessee opened its final SEC series of the regular season with a 7-0 win over No. 15 Ole Miss on Thursday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Junior Garrett Stallings (8-3) threw his second complete-game shutout of the season. The Rebels managed just four hits against Stallings, who did give up a walk in the game.
The shutout win gives Tennessee 10 this season, which is tied for the most in the country. It’s also tied for the most in program history.
Andre Lipcius, who entered his junior year with a combined eight home runs, belted out his 16th of the season in the eighth inning. The long ball topped off a night where Lipcius totaled three hits and three runs batted in. Ricky Martinez went 4-for-4 at the plate, adding a run scored and two RBI. The four hits tied a career high for the junior shortstop.
The win was the 13th for the Vols in conference play this season, marking the most SEC wins for Tennessee since 2007.
The Vols will look to lock up the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
