Update: Tennessee football has officially announced that Tee Martin is going to return to his alma mater and join the Tennessee coaching staff.
His specific duties and assignment to the staff will be announced soon.
According to ESPN sources, the quarterback who led Tennessee to a national championship will soon be returning to his alma mater to join the Tennessee coaching staff.
Senior ESPN Staff Writer Chris Low reported University of Southern California offensive coordinator Tee Martin has reached an agreement to join Jeremy Pruitt’s staff.
Vol fans will remember Martin as the quarterback who led the team to an undefeated, national championship season in 1998.
Martin, who has spent the last two seasons as USC offensive coordinator, would be paid for the final two years of his deal, according to the report.
ESPN’s Low writes Martin had several opportunities to join other top programs like Alabama, Auburn, Louisville, Maryland and others.
In 2017, Martin was a semifinalist for the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football.
The news comes just one week after Tennessee officially announced Jim Chaney would be the team’s new offensive coordinator.
