University of Tennessee head basketball coach Rick Barnes has been named a finalist for the 2019 Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year Award.
The Atlanta Tipoff Club made the announcement on Wednesday. Barnes is one of four coaches who made the final cut.
Barnes is also a finalist for the USBWA’s Henry Iba Award for National Coach of the Year.
Barnes’ accomplishments this season, his fourth with the Vols, include a 29-5 record, a school-record 19-game winning streak, a program-record-tying three victories over top five opponents, and the second most victories in a single season in program history.
The Vols were ranked number one in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for four consecutive weeks and spent the entire season in the top 10.
Fans can vote online between March 22 and April 3. The fan vote will account for five percent of the overall vote. The winner will be announced on April 7 at the Naismith Awards Brunch during the Final Four in Minneapolis.
The Vols are seeded number two in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament and are set to play Colgate Friday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.
