Vols Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt talks fall camp

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Tennessee head football coach Jeremy Pruitt addressed media in Knoxville Thursday ahead of the beginning of fall camp Friday.

After traveling to Atlanta last week to take part in SEC Media Days, Pruitt Thursday expressed his goals for upcoming camp, provided updates on new players or those returning from injury during the roughly 25-minute press conference.

Pruitt stressed developing intelligence and discipline in fall camp during his opening statement.

I think to have success as a football player and a football team, you've got to have knowledge. Some of it comes with experience, some of it comes in film study and some of it is just getting out there with repetitions every day. We want to be a smart football team".

"If you're going to have a good program you've got to have discipline in your program and there's no better way to do it than in fall camp", Pruitt said.

He also provided updates on the availability of players for fall camp and where he projects new players to the program.

He says all players in the program will participate in fall camp with a few limited participants.

Pruitt says preseason ALL-SEC offensive lineman Trey Smith has been a non-contact participant throughout the summer due to blood clot complications but expects him to fully rejoin practice around August 20.

After missing all of the 2017-18 season with a knee injury, Pruitt says junior offensive lineman Chance Hall has been progressing throughout the summer. However, he says the coaching staff will look to monitor his progression in order to not overwhelm him in his recovery.

Pruitt also intends to give roughly equal reps in fall camp for his team, including at the quarterback position.
