Vols begin spring practice with multiple injuries

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The University of Tennessee football team had the first of its 15 spring practices on Tuesday.

The Vols will go through spring minus nine players out and several others limited due to injury.

Derek Barnett, Jason Croom, Alex Ellis, Marcus Jackson, Jakob Johnson, Darrin Kirkland Jr., Curt Maggitt, Danny O’Brien and Kyle Phillips will miss the entire spring season.

Head football coach Butch Jones credited his teams energy after practice Tuesday.

“Obviously good to get back on the football field and play football, although we didn’t have any pads on today. I liked our energy,” he said.

Quarterback Joshua Dobbs added, “It was great to get back out there competing with my brothers. It was definitely a good day. Got a lot of things accomplished, Got a lot installed so definitely picked up where we left off.”

The Vols will practice every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday leading up to the Orange and White game on April 25 at Neyland Stadium.
