Mars is known as the Red Planet because the iron minerals in the soil oxidize causing the soil and atmosphere to look red. Additionally, the climate of Mars is a cold, dusty desert and it is also a small planet, about half the size of Earth. Mars is the only planet that we have sent rovers to.
